As Higher School Certificate results rolled out to the Class of 2018 last week, Emily was one of 127 students from across NSW invited to an awards ceremony in Sydney to receive first-in-course honours.
Emily said she was very excited and a little overwhelmed by the honour.
Red Bend Catholic College Agricultural Coordinator Colin Hawthorn said Emily had done “extremely well” in Primary Industries, as well as receiving strong marks in Agricultural studies.
“She’s done amazingly well. She’s got a passion for agriculture,” he said.
Emily is currently working with her family farming cattle, sheep and cropping.
She plans to head to Charles Sturt University to study a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management.
Red Bend Catholic College Director of Teaching and Compliance Deborah Wheeldon says the school is very proud of Emily’s achievement, and proud of all of the students who sat the HSC at Red Bend this year.
The Advocate spoke to several other students from Red Bend who achieved a Band 6 in one or more of their subjects about some of their plans.
Laura Mattiske said the class were all pleased with their results because they all worked so hard.
Laura is hoping to receive an offer to study a Bachelor of Medical Science.
Cooper Lincoln is heading to Charles Sturt University at Wagga Wagga to study a Bachelor of Accounting.
Tyler Nute is planning to take a short break before he hopes to study a Bachelor of Criminology in Queensland.
Grace Dawson has also deferred further study for a year, and hopes to study Sports Medicine.
Maddison Donnelly is planning to take her time and consider any offers to study from various universities.
