Numbers lifted this sale, though quality continues to be very mixed. There was a larger percentage of plainer cattle penned, along with the few better finished lines. Majority of the usual buyers were present and competing in a cheaper market.
Yearling steers to processors eased 8c to sell from 240c to 280c/kg. Those to feed were also easier, with middle weights selling from 251c to 300c, while heavies made from 255c to 303c/kg. The heifer portion followed a similar cheaper trend. Processors paid from 239c to 278c, while those to feed received from 230c to 250c/kg.
Heavy steers and bullocks were very limited and reached 246c/kg. Grown heifers reached 245c/kg. Cows decreased 10c, with heavy 2 scores making from 175c to 195c, as 3 and 4 scores sold from 184c to 212c/kg.
Tuesday’s sheep and lamb sale – yarding 27300 Change 4550
Numbers lifted this sale although lambs numbers remained steady. Lamb quality continues to be mixed, with some handy lines of well finished lambs offered, along with the plainer types. Most of the usual buyers were present and competing in a cheaper market.
Light lambs eased $6 to sell from $110 to $120/head. Trade weights were $5 to $7 easier, with prices varying from $118 to $148/head. Heavy and extra heavy weight lambs were $10 easier, with heavy lambs selling from $136 to $165/head. Extra heavy weights varied in price from $150 to $213/head. Carcase prices averaged from 610c to 630c/kg cwt.
Mutton numbers showed the increase and quality was very mixed. Prices decreased, with Merino ewes selling from $78 to $136/head. Crossbreds received from $93 to $127, as Dorper ewes reached $106, while Merino wethers sold from $92 to $122/head.
