The exhibition, Heroes, Horses and Hardships, features 50 paintings providing an insight into policing and life in the 1860s based on writings by police during the era.
During the second half of the 1800s, Police recorded the incidents they attended, events and their duties in a book called the ‘Diary Of Duty And Occurrences’. Many of these books were destroyed over time and the history lost.
Since 2010, Daniel Greef and Police Chaplain, Father Peter King have been working on an honour roll of Police that served at Forbes. Diaries of Duty and Occurrences from 1862 to 1865 were found in Forbes and provided a lot of information.
The complete collection is heading to the Goulburn Police Academy for exhibition, but the community has an opportunity to view the works before they are handed over.
A fundraising reception, supporting the NSW Police Legacy will be on Friday, February 1 from 6pm at the Platypus Gallery. Entry is $10 and a full colour printed memento catalogue of the works can be purchased for $20.
