The Grease and Oil Change workshops are designed to give rural men and women some tips for looking after themselves in the midst of busy lives on the land.
Organisers Cherie Stitt, Melissa Brown and Danika McDonald are urging rural community members to take advantage of the once-a-year opportunity.
“These are really highly regarded speakers, and they’ll be giving practical strategies to help in the situations we’re facing,” Melissa said.
Acknowledging an incredibly tough few seasons for our agricultural sector, the team looked far and wide for the right speakers for Grease and Oil Change 2019.
Denis Hoiberg runs Lessons Learnt Consulting, he's a very experienced presenter who will be speaking about practicing resilience.
Dr Jo Braid, from Braid Health: Rehabilitation and Functional Medicine, will be explaining the impact of stress on physical health.
Vice chair of Riverina Bluebell, Steve Matthews, will speak about farming and good mental health.
The events are completely free to attend, they have been made possible due to sponsorship and grant funding.
They’re on Thursday February 21 at the Trundle Golfie and the following day, Friday February 22 at the Old School in Corinella.
Both events start at 9am.
There will be a cuppa and something to eat on arrival, so those who have already done a morning’s work won’t go hungry. Morning tea and lunch are also provided.
Organisers says it’s well worth half a day off the farm, to focus on your own wellbeing and catch up with the neighbours.
“If you ask me, the gold is in the small conversations that take place throughout the day, when you have a chance to hang out by the urn and talk to someone in your community and really ask them how they are and how they are travelling,” Cherie Stitt said.
She also shared the following feedback from someone who attended a previous event:
“Grease and Oil Change gives you the opportunity to hear first hand from ‘ordinary people’, the systems and strategies they have put in place and where they see a need to help themselves and others in their community,” one participant said.
For catering purposes, the organisers would appreciate an RSVP – but they do want as many people as possible to join them so please come along even if you’ve missed the RSVP.
You can register by Monday via Eventbrite (just search Grease and Oil Change), email cheriequade@hotmail.com or contact Cherie on 0411 057 745.
