It took an eagle two from Scott Kirkman on the 16th hole last Thursday to win the Forbes/Parkes veteran's 12 hole golf competition with the near record score of 31 points.

He only just scraped in as his playing partner and vets chairman Peter Barnes also recorded 31 points where scores were as good as the presentation of the course, excellent. In a trifecta for local players Lynnie Roberts, along with a few others, may not agree as he took home the encouragement award.

Thursday's competition will be 18 holes in Condobolin with noms from 9.30am for a 10am shot gun start. Local players will need to be on their guard early as a flurry of mixed comments are sure to fly as 'one cart length' Fred Collie will be playing stopping over in a trip from Mudgee to Narrandera.
Last Tuesday mid-week golfers were met with Allan Wellington Rees in charge where he had a new layout for the 12 hole competition, and to the satisfaction of all 20 players.
There was no one more happy with the 'smiling assassin' John Smith, who has been in the top three scores the last month, sitting and waiting with coach Mark Toohey in hand for the final cards to be submitted after posting a winning score of 35 points.
There were plenty who also stated their best play for some time. Peter Barnes scored 34 points while Terry Shannon and Garry Collits both recorded 33 points.
All have a hard luck story but one had to feel for Garry who lost a ball in front of the 13th green to record a miss then three putted the last from six feet under a piece of pressure.
Tuesday golf again today, ball toss at 9am for playing partners. Everyone welcome. Another reminder for the Lachlan Valley Forbes Veterans Week of Golf tournament to be played April 8 to 12.
You can nominate for one day or the complete week, and post entries will be accepted. It's a great schedule of play – Monday, April 8 four-ball medley. Individual competitions Tuesday, April 9 and Thursday, April 11 in the 36-hole competition. April 12, 18 holes for the NSWVGA trophy. Take note, you must play one previous individual round be be eligible for the medal. Wednesday 10th, leisure day.

Forbes Netball is offering fun for all the family in 2019, with competitions for boys and girls, mums and dads, and friends and relatives.
This year, Saturday Junior Mixed netball competition will be played during the winter, and mixed and ladies competitions will be played on Wednesday nights, in Autumn and Spring. Registrations are now open.
The Forbes Netball AGM will be held this week, Thursday February 21 at 7pm at the Forbes Services Memorial Club. All 2018 teams must be represented to form a quorum for the meeting. Thank you.
New committee members will need to be elected at the meeting. Volunteers are encouraged to team up and share the roles of the committee. The February monthly meeting will be held immediately after the AGM. Agenda items for the meeting can be sent to secretary.forbesnetball@gmail.com
The Primary Schools Gala day is set for March 11, and help from any volunteers would be very welcome.
The Saturday Junior Mixed Netball Come and Try day is set down for March 16, and plans will be finalised for the morning, at the meeting. A boys only Gala Day is being planned and a date will be set at the meeting.
Representative trial dates will be set asap. Players turning 12. 13 and 14, 2019 will play at the Junior State titles in July, and players turning 15, 16 and 17, 2019 will play in the u17 team at the Senior State titles in June.
The Saturday morning competition has been given an overhaul for 2019, with both boys and girls playing in the Junior Mixed competition. The Junior mixed competition is free to all players using their Active Kids voucher.
The FNA committee has already started organising the Junior Mixed competition with new dresses already ordered for the girls, and colour matching t-shirts for the boys. Thank you to the Forbes Services Memorial Club for donating $1000 towards the cost of the new uniforms.
Team entries for the Autumn night competitions for both ladies and mixed teams are now open. To be able to play next Wednesday night, in the first grading games, teams must be entered by this Thursday night at the meeting. Ladies can play in both mixed and ladies competitions on the same night. Dates for the competitions will be finalised at the General meeting after the AGM.
Susan Pettit Clinic: Australian Diamond goal shooter Susan Pettit has confirmed that she will be coming to Forbes on Sunday March 17. Susan will be conducting a general skills clinic for boys and girls aged 6-14 from 9am to 11 am.
After the General skills clinic, Susan will run her Shooting Academy program for boys and girls 11 years and older. The shooting Academy program is limited to 20 players. Go to FNA Facebook for more details.
