The funding, which has come as part of the Community Building Partnerships program from the NSW Government, will help supply the Cancer Council with a new vehicle. 

Driver Jo Krats said her work, which involves picking up patients within 200km of Orange without means of transport to and from appointments for things like pathology, specialist check-ups and treatment, was needed. 

"I think it's a great service and it's clearly required, most families have been touched by cancer and I know I have," she said. 

"People are extremely appreciative, every now and again you get people down in the dumps due to what they're going through but so many people are so appreciative for what we do.

"I've been driving for about two years now and it's a lovely thing to do."

She said the role has taken her all across the region, to "plenty of places I can't even remember the names of", as well as Canowindra, Woodstock, and her first job in Hill End. 

"My very first drive was to Hill End and I had to get the map and the SatNav out, I'd never heard of it before," she said. 

"The new car will certainly be useful and clearly the service is required."

Mr Donato said he was proud to have helped deliver the "significant" funding for the Cancer Council.
