The weekend promised a wide range of conditions for the golfers, who responded with a surge of scoring that gradually built towards the top spot of the day. And it was a close contest.

On Saturday the Men played a 4BBB Stableford, sponsored by C and D Floor coverings.
The field of 60 players managed to cover a wide range of scores, with some tripping up on the fairway mat when least expected.
The overall Winners were Nick Ryan and Adam Borger. Nick played well below his posted handicap in what was a good team effort as he picked up points when Adam faltered.
Their 49 points was sufficient to stay on top of the pile. It was compiled without a single miss or one-pointer, and helped by a five-pointer.
Ahead of them on course, and early clubhouse leaders were the eventual runners-up.
Paul Kay and Allan Rees both played well, ensuring they never missed a hole, but while they had the same number of above-par scores they could not quite match the top spot.
Their 48 points usurped the then club-house leaders, Matt Duff and Brett Slack-Smith on 47 points.
The ball sweep went to 44 points, with lucky players being: 49 - N Ryan/A Borger; 48 - P Kay/A Rees; 47 - M Duff/ B Slack-Smith; 46 - B Parker/ D Culley, R Taylor/ C Barrett; 44 - N Duncan/ R Nixon, G Webb/ R Besgrove, L Little/ M Prior.
The NTP's went to: ninth - A Dukes; 18th - Alf Davies. The greens were still receptive to high shots attacking the pin, but the twos were just not there.
Neither of the NTP-ers got one, with only four scored all day, one on each of the par-three's. Tim Toohey from Springwood was the only visitor.
Though putting was less troublesome this week when compared to last week, somehow players managed to miss more than they got.
It was fascinating watching a ball skip uphill, or even divert markedly after hitting a 'duck's package'.
There were no 'eagles, but there were a number of 'nearly eagles', which resulted in 'birdies'.
There were many exclamations when things happened, so very difficult to pick one to highlight. Instead, just say congratulations all around.
Towards the end of the day the clouds built up, joined by threatening noises in the sky. Eventually, the downpour came.
Luckily most players were in the club house by then, but a few groups got caught at the end of their rounds.
Some soggy cards took effort to scan. And a couple of cards were not presented as the rounds were not completed. But it was lovely to get a bit of 'moisture', however brief.
We are somewhat fortunate to not have kangaroos hopping across our course, although some have been seen in past years. But one chappie hopped into the club house on Saturday night.
It was in the guise of Peter Grayson, who had one foot in a moon boot, the result of an Achilles tendon injury.
He was hopping down to Sydney for remedial work, and reconciled to a long recovery. We wish you well Pete.
The Stableford Medley on Sunday, was a very quiet affair with many players otherwise engaged out of town. But the Ladies enjoyed clam conditions.
The winner was Julie Hurkett with 39 points. A very well compiled card, with only two one-pointers on it.
Julie played in company with Robyn Lunn (Morisett CC) who seemed to enjoy her game, the company and the course.
Her 38 points was creditable, but alas there was no runners-up prize.
There was no ball sweep. The NTP's however were pretty good. Bess Shields had a bulls-eye on the ninth, but no two resulted.
On the 18th it was Robyn Lunn, who converted for a two. What a pleasant day for her.
Pennant finals
The CWDGA Pennants 2019 Finals were held at Wellington on Sunday. Forbes was represented by our Division 1 team, who were up against Bathurst.
There was abroad spread of Clubs represented across the Divisions, with Division 2 - Parkes versus Bathurst, Division 3 - Wellington versus Mudgee, and Division - 4 Cowra versus Dubbo.
Our boys went down fighting, with three matches going Bathurst's way by 2/1 in each.
Steve Betland could not buy a putt under-eight foot long, making for a short game by him.
Ecky Dawson was determined to record a personal win and pushed hard to record a two-up win over Ben Mackey, known to many here in Forbes.
Other winners were - Division 2 Parkes, Division 3 Mudgee, and Div Dubbo.
Once again Forbes acquitted itself well in the CWDGA, and was able to showcase a course in very good condition. Many Pennants players from other Clubs have vowed to come back and play socially.
We look forward to next year and hope at least one, or more of our teams can 'hoist a flag'. Well done to all players.
