After receiving more than 100 applications for the first round of their new Building Better Communities program, Bernardi's have chosen three beneficiaries for each of their stores in Forbes, Bathurst, West Wyalong, Blayney and Wagga.
The initiative is designed to get customers involved in the sponsorship process, and to give them ownership over who Bernardi's support as a business.
Co-CEO Joe Bernardi said it's their take on how the funds will be allocated however, that really has customers excited.
"At every transaction, customers will be given a green token which they can choose to give to one of three recipients," he said.
"They simply place their token in the box for the cause they'd most like to support and the money will be divided at the end of the campaign period."
"The organisation deemed most worthy by our customers will receive 50% of the total sponsorship amount ($2500) and the second and third will receive 30% ($1500) and 20% ($1000) respectively."
The three local community organisations which are beneficiaries of the first round of the program are RBCC Junior Rugby League, Jenny Murphy Park Refurbishment and the Forbes Learning Ladder.
Louise Mackay, from RBCC Junior Rugby League, said the money received from the program will be put towards training equipment for the kids.
Raewyn Molloy from the Forbes Learning Ladder said new air conditioning unit is in the works for the centre.
Amy Shine, representing the Jenny Murphy Park Refurbishment said that they will use the money the receive to install more play equipment in the park in partnership with the Council.
"Grants like this can be of huge benefit to small charities and organisations who are working towards specific projects," Joe said.
"We are really excited about being able to help these people achieve their goals a little quicker."
Next time you're shopping with Bernardi's, keep an eye out for your token at the checkout. Select the beneficiary you want to support and make a difference on the spot.
The tokens for first round of the Building Better Communities program will be tallied in June. They will then announce three new beneficiaries of the program.
Members of the organisations will also be hosting BBQ's outside Bernardi's with all proceeds going towards their programs.
