More than 25 per cent of Forbes residents volunteer in some way, the 2016 Census data reveals.
That's significantly higher than the national average of 19 per cent, and the second-highest percentage in the central west.
So it's only fitting that Forbes honoured that during National Volunteer Week, an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contributions of Australia's volunteers.
Forbes Shire Council hosted a morning tea on Wednesday to acknowledge and celebrate their contributions locally.
Mayor Phyllis Miller said the people of Forbes are very lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers. From all walks of life, they get in and contribute to our community.
"Volunteers are such an important part of the fabric of our town and our lives, and we are so grateful to each and every one of you for everything you do," she said.
Also on Wednesday, members of the SES gathered at the Forbes NRMA for an orange-themed morning tea in support of Wear Orange Wednesday. WOW Day recognises and appreciates the work of State Emergency Service volunteers across Australia.
