More than 1,138,000 children were registered to read the story at 11am in schools, early childhood centres and public libraries.
An Australian book is chosen each year for the occasion: in 2019, Alpacas with Maracas written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove was chosen for the big event.
The book tells the story of two alpacas who want to be part of a talent show ... and need to work out an act for it.
Kids at Forbes Library tried their drumming and other talents along with the alpacas as Kathy Garland read the story.
Over at Forbes Preschool, children from Condobolin Preschool and Forbes North Public School came together to read the story.
The kids then put on their own talent show, and enjoyed the rest of the morning of singing, dancing and games.
It was all a lot of fun for everyone, and that's the whole aim of the event.
The Australian Library and Information Association started National Simultaneous Storytime 19 years ago to promote the value and fun of books, reading and literacy.
The event also promotes an Australian writer and publisher and provides parents and grandparents the chance to be involved in storytime activities in public libraries.
There's something on at Forbes library each Friday morning during the school terms: rhyme time and storytime are on at 10.30am on alternative Fridays.
This Friday is rhyme time, June 7 is storytime.
