Forbes Shire Council's drought workforce has installed 400 bollards along the pathways, from the Dreaming Centre to Lachlan Street.
Mayor Phyllis Miller is thrilled about the project and says the community response has been enthusiastic.
"People are excited about having more choices about when they walk - especially in winter in the early evening but also in summer after sundown (when the heat backs off)," she said.
The bollards were chosen after surveys of people using the lake paths.
The council's manager major projects Aaron Parker says the lights are waterproof and each unit is uniquely identified by security data dotting.
Their lighting is directional, aimed at the pathways rather than spilling light upwards, and they're designed to operate from dust to dawn for three nights even if the sun doesn't shine.
If the spacing appears erratic, it's because the distance between each bollard has been calculated based on the amount of sunlight different parts of the path get.
