Police beat: car fire, break-ins

A vehicle was destroyed by fire on Uphills Lane on Sunday evening.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire when the vehicle was well alight, with Rural Fire Services Brigades attending to prevent the blaze spreading.

Police said the vehicle was reported stolen from a Quarry Road address.

They are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Police are also investigating a break and enter that led to the theft of a vehicle on Friday night.

A Holloway Street residence was broken into, a car key and subsequently the vehicle stolen.

Police forensics are to examine the home, the vehicle had not been recovered at time of going to press.

It appears tobacco was the only thing stolen in another break-in, at a Rankin Street business premises. Police forensics are also to examine that scene.

There was a heavy police presence on the Newell Highway over the long weekend, with double demerits in force and additional police on the roads.

A local police spokesperson said there had been a number of drug detections.

One 53-year-old Forbes man will face court after returning a roadside test positive for methamphetamines on Sunday morning in Sheriff Street.

It is further alleged a search of his car uncovered drugs.

Police have recovered a dark blue cooler bag containing a couple of beers and an ice pack.
