Nell's Pantry last week received a generous donation from Tony Bernardi, and said thank you to Bernardi's as well as the many community members who have contributed to the cause.
The pantry is the result of a bequest from Nell Prow, but even those who got it up and running hadn't realised the extent of the need until they opened the doors.
The farming community continues to experience severe drought conditions: many have now been purchasing stock feed for more than 18 months, with prices at all-time highs due to the widespread dry conditions.
More than 40 families have come to the pantry in the first three weeks and volunteers have very much been impacted by their gratitude, Sue Jolliffe said.
People can donate at the St John's office between 9am and 1pm Tuesday to Friday. Monetary donations have also come in from Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
"We thank the community very much," Mrs Jolliffe said.
The pantry is open each Tuesday from 1pm to 3.30pm. Farming families are encouraged to come in and fill two reusable shopping bags of items for free.
