The early ends were dominated by Scott and he was able to hold Peter to just three shots while he compiled 15 through the first nine ends.
Peter then picked up a few shots before he landed a nice four on the 17th end to edge a little closer with the score then 11 to 20. Any thoughts of a comeback by Peter and the crowd of supporters were quickly snuffed out as Scott regained control of the game and picked up a few singles before scoring 3 shots in consecutive ends and then rounding out the solid win after 26 ends.
Peter played some brilliant bowls to dispose of a number of capable contenders on the way to the final but ran into a very determined opponent on the day and wasn't able to reproduce his best form. Scott now joins a long list of noted bowlers on the Club Champion list, which includes his late father-in-law, Don Drabsch and his son Mitchell. Congratulations to Scott and Peter for their achievements this year.
Major Fours
One game in the Major Fours was completed on the weekend when Daniel Tisdell, Lyall Strudwick, Russell Hodge and Glen Kearney played Rob Priest, Ray Dunstan, Peter Mackay and Brian Tisdell. Brian's team was out of the blocks early and had 8 shots on the board before Glen and his team mates got a start however their control of the mat was short lived. Brian's team continued to steadily record shots throughout the game to take the match comfortably with a 21 to 13 win.
Thursday Bowls
Twelve players turned out last Thursday. Ray Dunstan and Viv Russell had a 23 to 10 win over Cliff Nelson and Lyall Strudwick mainly due to some last bowl gems from Ray and a fair bit of luck from Viv. Peter Hocking and Lindsay Willding got over Tony Bratton and Wayne Burton 30 to 11. Phil Moran and Christian West were 29 to 18 winners against John Cutler and Allan Phillips. It was noted that John was well below his usual high standard in this match and apparently three of his bowls took wrong turns. The winning rink on the day went to Peter Hocking and Lindsay Willding and the runner-up rink to Ray Dunstan and Viv Russell. The Thursday jackpot did not go off.
Sunday Morning Bowls
Three games of pairs and a game of triples were played on Sunday.
Fred Vogelsang, Alison Cutcliffe and Bill Adams had a 13 to 7 win against Peter Greenhalgh, Phil Moran and Alan Hilder.
Lindy Cannon and Scott McKellar won 18 to 13 against Loris Stewart and Tony Bratton. Laurie Crouch and Viv Russell were out bowled by Pam Stevens and Bert Bayley losing 20 to 9.
Pam and Bert will be pairing for the mixed carnival this weekend.
John Cutler paired with Paul Baker to get home 16 to 10 against Pat Hodson and Allan Phillips. The lead bowls tussle between John and Pat was a beauty. Three resting touchers were recorded on the day with Bert Bayley, Pam Stevens and Lindy Cannon all earning a free drink. The winning rink went to Lindy Cannon and Scott McKellar and the losing rink to Laurie Crouch and Viv Russell. The Bakehouse winner for May was Paul Baker and for June it was Bill Adams. Please note that there will be no bowls this Sunday due to the staging of the mixed carnival but it will recommence on Sunday 21st.
