For the first time ever, Forbes Shire residents can choose what community projects they would like funded thanks to the NSW Government's My Community Project program.

Voting opened this week and closes on August 15 with successful projects announced in September.

Six projects in Forbes and one in Eugowra are seeking community support to gain a slice of the funding.

The Forbes projects are for more lighting around Lake Forbes ($200,000), a facelift for the Forbes Town Band Hall ($46,467), refurbishment of the Forbes BMX track ($40,000), a Lachlan House with No Steps Community Hub ($195,173), Calarie Hall and Recreation Ground upgrade ($98,394) and relocation of the Forbes Mens Shed ($200,000).

In Eugowra, the Eugowra Rugby League is seeking $150,000 for lighting at the home of the Golden Eagles.

The Forbes projects are among 41 in the Orange electorate vying for funding.

"This really is grassroots democracy in action, a program driven by the community with the aim of delivering for that community," Mr Perrottet said.

Grants of between $20,000 and $200,000 will be awarded once voting is complete with a maximum of $260,000 to be spent in the Orange electorate of which Forbes is a part.

To vote Forbes residents must be 16 years of age and can only back a project in the Orange electorate.
