NSW State Emergency Service volunteers to descend on Trundle for Land Search Operations training activity

More than 50 NSW SES volunteers from across the state will descend on Trundle to take part in Land Search Operations training on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August.

NSW SES Local Commander Phil Snow said the aim of the course is to provide members with the skills and knowledge to search for and locate lost persons, or items, as a member of the land search team.

"The NSW SES can be called upon by NSW Police to help provide people, resources, advice and planning skills for a search operation," Mr Snow said.

"During our support to the police our members may be required to enter properties, search private land and buildings or dense scrub.

"As part of the two-day course our members will learn a range of skills to prepare them for a land search operation. The course will cover everything from preparing for and participating in a land search, through to information gathering and preserving a scene."

The weekend training activity will take place at the local SES headquarters, local ovals and bushlands around Trundle

"This will be a highly visible training weekend and residents and visitors will see plenty of orange-clad volunteers in and around town. I just want to assure people that it is a training exercise only and there is no need for any concern," Mr Snow added.

If you have an interest in supporting your local community and making new friends, while getting nationally recognised training, contact your local NSW SES Unit or visit the volunteer section of the website at www.ses.nsw.gov.au to find out more or apply.
