HE Silos is a family owned and operated business that has been working hard in its 50th year.
We spoke to the office manager at the Forbes factory - Stevie Morrison who is third generation - straight after they returned from the last of their four Local Grain Expos around NSW.
Stevie's parents Steven and Jennifer Morrison along with her brother Joshua run the Forbes factory, her uncle Darryl and aunt Cherylee Morrison along with their children Larna and DJ run the Gunnedah factory. Their grandparents Ivan and Patricia Morrison who founded the company retired in 2006 but still drop in to see how everyone is and always remain available for advice.
Established as Hillston Engineering in Hillston NSW in 1969, the construction of grain silos commenced in 1972.
The silo factory was relocated to Forbes in 1984, and the factory in Gunnedah was added in 1997.
Covering the entire east coast of Australia between them, the Forbes factory looks after customers generally to the south all the way to the Victorian border and furthest parts of South Australia, while the Gunnedah factory sends most its creations north deep into Queensland.
Additionally, "We have exported silos to New Zealand, Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji," says Stevie. "Our brand is well-recognised overseas because of the quality."
Justifiably proud of what the Morrison family has built up, Stevie pointed out "We're now in drought. Two years ago it was a flood, but no matter the challenges we come out smiling and positive, and working as a team and a family unit."

They also employ 70 people across the two sites and aim to instil the same positive attitude in them.
The factories produce silos from as small as 3.9 tonne up to 1000 tonne, including some transportable models. Grain feeders are also available.
One innovation that brought them recognition as NSW Business of the Year in 2016 for innovating their Thermal Insect Control System™ (TICS®), the advantage of which is one of safety, no longer having to climb the silo for grain fumigation because the system operates at ground level.
Things they're doing to celebrate 50 years include the aforementioned Local Grain Expos - starting at the factory in Forbes, then on to Ag n Vet West Wyalong, then Landmark Goulburn, and finishing where it all began in Hillston hosted by Landmark Hillston - as well as labelling every silo made in the 50th year to mark the occasion.
They've also organised a big prize giveaway to be drawn on the last day of the Henty Machinery Field Days later this month.
