First of all and foremost is the $11,000 Ladbrokes PGA Legends Tour to be played today week, September 27.
Local golfers are reminded that along with the 36 professional players nominated the major tournament is open to local and visiting amateur golfers who will join in a playing group with one of the professionals competing.
For a full field to play organisers are looking to have 78 amateur players involved which will see a full field of 134 players. Tee-off is from 8.30am to 10.30am taking in the first and tenth tees.
Tournament director Andrew Dukes said this week that the amateur fee is $45 which covers green fees etc while lunch is also included.
"You never know playing with a pro a few tips on how to improve your game may come. In fact I know if your ask the pros they are only to pleased to pass on tips to play a better game," Andrew said.
"This is the third year we have held the pro-am and not only men amateur golfers can play ladies as well as juniors are also invited to have a hit. Its not every day you get to play 18 holes with a professional player," he added.
Followers of golf over the years will notice some familiar players taking part next week headed by Steve Conran from Orange with a record as a prolific winner on the Asian Tour.
England will be represented by Ben Jackson along with regular Australian tournament competitors Grant Kenny and Noel Ratcliffe, another successful overseas competitor.
Young will host the Legends Tour after Forbes with play to be held this Monday and Tuesday.
Amateur winners in Forbes will be well rewarded with the best Stableford scores resulting in Srixon golf bags and t-shirts amongst the trophies.
Major sponsor of the tournament is the Forbes Shire while added sponsors include Lachlan Commodities, Walkers Ag-N-Vet, Forbes Machinery, Bernardi Group, BWR Accountants and Jemalong Irrigation.
Deputy Mayor of the Forbes Shire, Jenny Webb visited the golf club on Tuesday to acknowledge the shire's support of the tournament commenting she and the shire are in full support of backing community clubs when and where possible.
"I think we have something like 90 events which are sport related, a lot for the shire when you take in the communities such as Wirrinya and Bedgerabong," Jenny said.
"Sport, such as golf, gives the opportunity for farmers and the community (town) to come together. Which is good for the town and district, and why sport gets more community funding then any other."
More major golf tournaments will follow the Legends Tour with club championships set down for October 12, 13, 19 and 20, Rotary Charity Day Sunday, October 27 before the staging of the Frank Spice Nissan Classic on Saturday and Sunday, November 9 and 10.
