Minor Triples: Games in the Minor Triples competition continued last week and it was good to see Terry Shannon and Kingsley Green back on the green and teaming up with John Baass in their game against Peter Greenhalgh, Alan Hilder and Peter Mackay. John, Kingsley and Terry showed they've still got plenty of bowling skills between them as they got in front on the first end and were never headed on their way to a 20 to 14 win. In the other game, Mark Toohey, Alan Smith and Ray Dunstan came up against Jim Maloy, Phil Moran and John Kennedy. This game was pretty close until Ray's team dropped 10 consecutive shots over 4 ends in the middle stage. While they got back within two shots on the 17th end, John's team finished off by winning the final 4 ends to run out 22 to 13 winners.
Wednesday: If it's not going to rain it might as well be pleasant for outdoor sports and last Wednesday 20 lawn bowlers did just that enjoying a morning on the green. Coupled with six games of social pairs there was one minor competition game of triples.
After being down 6-2 early Mark Toohey, Allan Smith (sub for Don Craft) and Ray Dunstan were able to 'collect the chocolates' 23-15 over Jim Moloy, Phil Moran and John Kennedy in a game over the usual 21 ends.
In pairs John Baass and Barry Shine have tasted success previously and did so again last Wednesday winning a nail biter 21-20 over Bill Looney and Kerry Dunstan in a game lasting 20 ends. It was close all the way with the winners in front 9-8 after 10. John and Barry celebrated as card draw winners.
There were two games closer, draws. Bruce Dean and Peter Mackay drew 20-all with Eddie Gould and Rob Priest over another 20 end game after Eddie and Rob led 9-7 at 'oranges'.
In a clash of the 'heavy weights' Laurie Crouch and Lindsay Willding drew 18-all with Alf Davies and Tony Bratton over 22 ends. Alf and Tony led 12-6 after 11 before Laurie and Lindsay made a late surge with winners.
In yet another close encounter Noel Jolliffe and Denny Byrnes won 20-18 over Peter Greenhalgh and Geoff Coles over 20 ends with the score 10-6 in favour of the victors after 10.
There was less stress in the remaining two matches with John Ashcroft and Grant Lambert winning 22-12 over John Gorton and Fred Vogelsang in a game over 18 ends. After nine ends it was 14-6 to the winners.
In the final game Trevor Curry and 'Sid' Walker were all class winning 24-11 over Bill O'Connell and Ralph Waugh in a game lasting 20 ends. They were never headed leading 12-6 after 10 ends.
Ralph may have lost on the green but he, along with Jim Moloy (another to lose), is heading to Flint Street after winning the in-house meat raffle.
Missing out on a win last Wednesday was Kerry Acheson (member 926) in the evening members draw which stood at $500. This week the jackpot stood at $600 for the 7pm draw.
Who was happy this week by being in attendance to collect or disappointed for not, find out in next Friday's edition of the Advocate.

Thursday: The mild conditions brought out 14 bowlers last Thursday with 2 games of pairs and a game of singles. Skip, Darrol Griffith, was on fire with his bowls and led his team of Dennis Byrnes and Laurie Crouch to a resounding 25 to 6 victory over Bob Grant, Viv Russell and Peter Hocking. John Cutler and Glen Kearney earned bragging rights over Ron Thurlow and Al Phillips with a narrow win. Glen and John were behind all the way until they just edged in front on the 21st end and then kept the lead to get home 17 to 14. In the final game Parkes player, Mick Valentine, and Lyall Strudwick played against the experienced pairing of Scott McKellar and Tony Bratton. While they have played plenty of bowls together, Scott and Tony obviously didn't fire in this game and dropped quite a few multiples along the way to a 33 to 19 defeat. The winning rink prize money on the day went to Dennis, Laurie and Darrol.
Sunday: Fifteen bowlers played in the Sunday morning competition. Peter Walker and John Kennedy held Pat Hodson and Alan Hilder to a 14 all draw by picking up 6 shots on them in the last two ends. John Cutler and Paul Baker won 15 to 10 against Alison Cutcliffe and Alan Smith. Loris Stewart and Peter Mackay got a close 14 to 12 win against Don Hodson and Scott McKellar. Peter Greenhalgh, Clive Herbert and John Bentick had a three way game of singles and Clive got the win in that one.
