Ending a dry run of ten starts since the last win, rank outsider Bring A Beer Along ($26) with Dubbo jockey Ken Dunbar in the saddle, came from near last with a strong run on the outside to score a close win over Seawatch (Eleanor Webster-Hawes, $19) And Dart Street (Ashleigh Stanley, $4.60).
Owned by Robyn Douglas and trained at Narromine by her husband Wayne Collison, Bring A Beer Along now has the record of four wins and 12 placings from 37 starts.
Forbes attracted a big crowd and racing commenced with the Peter Maher Shearing Services & Bryton Wool Maiden Handicap (1200 metres) won by Bellator ridden by Kate Cowan a former successful rider in New Zealand who is now apprenticed to Dubbo trainer Kody Nestor.
Given a nice run in fourth, the Kody Nestor trained Bellator ($2.70 favourite) won by two lengths from the leader Viking Clap (Simon Miller, $9.50) and Dizzy Dylan (Tony Cavallo, $61).
Onya Boss (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $2 fav.) gave Kody Nestor a winning double when sharing the lead before taking a narrow lead beating Empowered Madam (Andrew Banks, $5) and Recorded (Chelsea Ings, $11).
An added bonus for Kody Nestor was winning the $500 cash prize for leading trainer on the day, sponsored by MBR Clothing (Danny Molloy) And Peter Maher Wool Services.
Favourite backers had little cause for concern when the Todd Smart, Canberra trained High Street (Simon Miller, $1.65) cruised behind the leaders and then shot away to win the Walkers AG n VET Forbes Benchmark 58 Handicap (1600 metres) by three and a half lengths from Bells 'N' Bows (Clayton Gallagher, $5) and Dazzle Em Sid (Chelsea Ings, $51).
Mature age apprentice Qin Yong kicked home a winning double, see page 14.
The track, prepared by Tom Molloy, provided an outstanding racing surface which was appreciated by trainers with horses at the meeting.
