The Vanishing, which opened at The Platypus Gallery on Saturday, features the works of more than 25 Forbes Art Society members.
President Karen Ritchie said the theme was an invitation to reflect on the impact of the past 250 years of human development on the fauna and flora of Australia.
"I was very please to note a lot of members responded," president Karen Ritchie said.
"A lot of our members have a keen interest in nature and enjoy painting wildlife."
The exhibition has been in the making for some months, but it was exceptionally poignant to have it open in a week where so much of our landscape has been affected by bushfire.
The iconic koala was a popular choice of subject, the loss of their habitat in fires around Port Macquarie has been making headlines this month.
From bees and finches to turtles and koalas, platypus and parrots to our landscapes, our artists have used a whole range of mediums and styles to depict the beauty of Australian wildlife.
"There are lots of lovely works," Ms Ritchie said.
The exhibition is open at the Platypus Gallery until the end of November.
