Thomas kicked off her rugby career during her years in Forbes and went on to represent Australia with the Wallaroos.
She says it's an honour now to have the opportunity to coach the next generation, the Australia A side, as they head to the Oceania Cup.
"To coach at a national level is pretty exciting," Thomas said.
"It's good to be a part of the next generation."
To have a young Forbes player in her squad is an added bonus.
"It's really exciting to get to meet Lil," Thomas said.
"I remember when she was a kid, playing with my nephew.
"She's had a fantastic season ... seeing her that first day, she knows how to play footy so we just need to get her into the style of footy we're looking to play."
Australia A was scheduled to play three games during the 10-day tournament, taking on Tonga, Samoa and a Black Ferns development side in Lautoka.
The Cup is a qualifier for other sides who have their sights set on the 2021 World Cup in New Zealand.
But it's a wonderful opportunity for the Australia A side as well.
"Some of these girls just completed their HSC two days ago," Thomas said from the airport on Friday, waiting to board.
"It's an opportunity to play against international sides."
And it's only the beginning for Lillyann, who has also been named in the NSW Waratahs' extended squad for the Super W season.
