The Forbes Salvos hope to help.

Lieutenant Maryanne Lovering says they have already taken queries and yes, they are doing a toy drive this year.

As the drought continues, its impact is widening and the local Salvos are certainly hearing about the need out there.

"We have been pretty blessed," Lt Lovering said.

"We have had donations of gift cards so we have been able to relieve some of those home pressures and help meet people's basic needs."

If you are in a position to help out you can donate new toys, still in packaging, at their new family store at 73 to 77 Rankin Street (right between Allure on Main and Cahills Footwear).

The Salvos ask that you specify the toys are for toy hampers so they can be kept separate from donations to the family store, but please do not wrap them.

Families who could use assistance to give their children gifts this Christmas are encouraged to contact Mrs Lovering through the family store.

She will need some details such as age and gender of your child or children, and will make an appointment for you to come and select something appropriate close to the date.

The Salvation Army is also helping to roll out one-off $3000 payments for farmers under the latest round of drought funding.
