President Nathan Clarke says the committee has been putting in the hard yards to prepare the grounds and the track for February 15.

Working bees have begun in earnest, out at the grounds since before Christmas, with volunteers cleaning up, gardening and working on watering systems.

"We've had to put that little bit extra effort in (due to the drought conditions," Clarke said.

The picnic race meeting traditionally draws thousands of visitors from all over the region - and for those planning to be trackside, it's time to start planning your day.

There will be shuttle buses to and from Forbes, with detail to come closer to the time.

Traditionally there's a program of six races and all facilities will be available on course.

But there's plenty of off-track entertainment as well.

Fashions on the Field is traditionally hotly contested and there's no reason to expect anything differently this year.

"We have got some fantastic prizes," Clarke said.

Those include a chainsaw and spanner set for the Bedgerabong King.

"Myer has come on board again, they're a fantastic sponsor for the women's fashions on the field," Clarke said.

There's a jumping castle for the kids and once the racing wraps up there will be footraces.

Melbourne band Trainwreck Trio will take the entertainment into the evening.

There will be a second bar again, so that those in marquees don't have too long a walk.

Clarke says it's all "operation normal" at this point.

"It's all coming along quite well," he said.

"We're fortunate to have the committee we do.

"They're all more than willing to come along and help out and that shows what kind of community we have."
