Rural Fire Service brigades as well as Parkes Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were quick to act and extinguished a grass fire on the "mad mile" at Tichborne on the Newell Highway.
The fire started on the edge of the highway at 12.30pm with 43km an hour winds gusting up to 59km/hr recorded at Parkes airport at the time.
A Mid Lachlan Valley Team RFS spokesperson said the cause of the fire was yet to be identified, and praised the quick response of the firefighters.
Volunteer brigades from Forbes Central, Parkes Headquarters, Back Yamma and Tichborne had been particularly quick to attend the fire when the call was put out, he said.
The actions of all involved stopped the fire from spreading into the neighbouring stubble paddock.
In terrible weather conditions such as today, we are all very thankful for the quick response from the local RFS teams and Fire and Rescue.
