It was the first parade in five years and people lined Lachlan Street and flocked around the bridge to watch.
Australia Day committee chair Cr Steve Karaitiana said thanked and congratulated everyone who participated in the parade.
"It was difficult decision to put the parade back on due to the current conditions - a lot of events around the country have been cancelled," he said at Sunday night's picnic in the park.
The return of the parade was in response to public demand and Cr Karatiana said the numbers gathering in the park showed it had been a popular move.
First prize was awarded to Fire and Rescue NSW Forbes, who featured more than 100 years of firefighting history.
From the hand-drawn cart to modern breathing apparatus, our local firies had the old sirens and uniforms on parade.
Second place went to the Forbes Learning Ladder who managed to get the Bananas in Pyjamas and their friends the teddy bears on board.
Third went to the CWA Evening Branch, who were having a cuppa and scones on the back of a ute.
Other special features included Terry Moore's historic horse-drawn carriages, with early 1900s costumes.
