You will be able to find out on Saturday, February 15 when the Forbes Branch of the SES host their annual open Day to show the community what they do.
This year, they will be hosting their open day down at Lions Park from 9am to 2pm.
Forbes SES Controller Roc Walshaw said they will be bringing down a variety of equipment and resources that they use, as well as demonstrating some of the skills they use in times of need.
The Forbes branch is called upon to assist - in storm operations, rescue operations, road accidents and other emergency situations.
Mr Walshaw said the open day is to provide general information about the SES and what people would be doing if they become a volunteer.
During the open day there will be the SES boat on the water, large animal rescue trailer, a rescue from death demonstration.
Also on offer will be demonstrations of the jaws of life, with audience members invited to participate.
Mr Walshaw said there are jobs for everyone, regardless of ability with positions available for those who can't go out into the field.
Mr Walshaw said they are hoping that more people with a medium rigid truck license can volunteer as they are looking for more people that can drive their trucks in times of need.
You don't need to have any special skills to volunteer for the SES, with regular training sessions which can teach a variety of skills including first aid, chainsaw, operating the flood boat, search and rescue, map reading and radio operations.
