Only one game was played in the Club Pairs this week. Paul Baker and John Kennedy kept their impressive form from round one to dispose of Rob Priest and Peter Mackay in convincing fashion. Paul and John started with 4 shots on the opening end and were never headed on their way to a 24 to 11 victory.
Thursday Bowls
Just a couple of games were played in the heat of Thursday morning. Tony Bratton and Lindsay Willding showed no mercy in their game against Dennis Byrnes and Scott Andrews with an overwhelming 32 to 7 win.
Tony and Lindsay's side of the scorecard featured numerous multiples including 2 ends where they picked up five shots. The other side of the card was not so good with Denny and Scooter only managing to win four ends for their meager score.
Cherie Vincent and Lyall Strudwick had a good game against Max Vincent and Grant Lambert. With Cherie and Max battling against each other in the lead positions and Lyall and Grant in control as skips the game proved to be a close run affair.
The scoreline was even after 15 ends but unfortunately for Cherie and Lyall they fell behind when Max and Grant picked up 9 shots in the concluding 5 ends to run out 19 to 12 winners.
Sunday mornings
Sixteen bowlers fronted up for a game last Sunday despite the extremely hot conditions. In a repeat of their Thursday game, Cherie Vincent and Lyall Strudwick were again drawn together and this time they were up against Loris Stewart and Al Phillips.
The opposition may have been different for Cherie and Lyall but the result was the same with Loris and Al just winning 16 to 14. It was great to see Harvey Elliott back on the green when he teamed up with Bill Adams for a game against Geoff Coles and Alan Hilda.
Harv and Bill started well but Geoff and Alan reeled them in on the 12th end and managed to keep the momentum for a 15 to 11 victory. Alan Affleck and Alison Cutcliffe picked up plenty of multiple shots on their way to a 16 to 5 victory over Don Hodson and Fred Vogelsang.
John Ward and Christian West played Pat Hodson and Laurie Crouch in what ended up being a close run result.
John and Christian were cruising with a 13 shot lead after 10 ends but that's when the wheels nearly fell off.
Pat and Laurie picked up 10 shots in the next 5 ends to be just 3 shots behind but Slippery and Christian scored a single shot on the last end to get an 18 to 14 win.
The winning rink draw went to John and Christian and the losing rink to Pat and Laurie. Ali Cutcliffe, Lyall Strudwick and Cherie Vincent all earned a free drink after rolling in resting touchers.
Major Fours
Bowlers entered in the Club Fours are reminded that the competition starts this weekend.
