Frock up and find your fascinator, the Bedgerabong Picnic Races are on this Saturday.
Anticipation for this event runs high every year and the 2020 meeting, celebrating 101 years of racing in the rural community, looks to be no different with plans for another great day well in hand.
There's a six-race program to run throughout the afternoon and there's entertainment on and off the track throughout the afternoon as well.
One of the big points of interest every year is the fashions and secretary Michelle Whiley describes this year's prize pool as "incredible" once again.
The categories are
- Bedgerabong's King (Ladies 18 years and over)
- Bedgerabong's King (Gentlemen 18 years and over)
- Bedgerabong's Princess (Girls 9-17 years)
- Bedgerabong's Prince (Boys 9-17 years)
- Bedgerabong Junior (Boys and Girls 8 and Under)
- Best Bedgerabong Headwear (Open)
There's a prize pool totalling about $2500 in value to be shared amongst this year's winners.
Myer has donated about $1000 in stunning prizes, the major sponsors include Sullivans Mining and Hardware, Julie Herbert Millinery, Little Extras and Blush.
If you'd like to be in the running please head to the stage (next to the bar) for preliminary judging after Race 2.
Finals and prize presentations will take place on the track after Race 3.
We'll have more on what you can expect from the racing side of the day in Friday's edition, after the fields are released, but with an increase to a total $30,000 in prize money there's sure to be plenty of interest.
And the grounds are looking good.
The committee has been working hard through the recent tough conditions to ensure the grounds and especially the track are well grassed and as prepared as possible, and now they've had beautiful, gentle and soaking rains over the weekend.
There's entertainment for the family on course with a jumping castle for the kids.
The entertainment continues into the evening with Melbourne band Trainwreck Trio performing live.
Gates open 10am and buses start heading to the rural racecourse from Victoria Park in Forbes at 12.30pm. They'll run as needed and seats on the bus are just $7 each way.
Buses back to town start at 7.45pm, the last bus heads for home at 10.30pm.
All facilities will be available on course including a bar and canteen, bookmakers and TAB. Please note, Bedgerabong races is cash only, there's no ATM on course.
