Retirement can be an interesting yet daunting prospect. The idea that full time employment is now behind you and you have more free time than you know what to do with can often leave people in a sense of limbo. You can grieve for the life you have left behind but there is also excitement about what is still to come. Similarly, moving into a retirement village can bring about the same feelings. While you may be leaving behind a home you have spent many years in, a new home can offer unique and exciting opportunities including meeting new and interesting friends and neighbours, participating in a wide range of new activities and becoming part of a fresh community of support.

Catholic Healthcare are building a new village just like this at Jemalong Retirement Village in Forbes that includes 19 freestanding and well designed homes, along with a wonderful community centre that will be a vibrant hub where residents can gather and socialise. The current village was rebuilt in 2010, and caters for 130 residents in tastefully decorated rooms, each with private ensuite, and offers the comfort and security with 24 hour, seven day a week, registered nursing care. There are also a wide range of community spaces and programs and activities that residents take part in.

Our support staff are here to make life as easy as possible.

Jenny Thomas, Sales Manager

The new homes are step one of a three stage process to include larger homes that encourage more independent living for those who don't require in depth care. Due for completion in June 2020, Jemalong Sales Manager Jenny Thomas, said that the new homes will help retirees to downsize and start using their spare time to do the things they enjoy in life. "Forget about home maintenance, it's all taken care of, as are council and water rates and building insurance," she said. "Our support staff are here to make life as easy as possible".

All homes offer wide corridors for ease of access and an emergency monitoring call system should residents require it. Other features of the homes include reverse cycle air conditioning, rural views and an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge to celebrate modern living. With almost half the homes already reserved, interested parties can give Jenny a call on 1300 151 976 to view the Jemalong Village.
