Planning is now in full swing for the annual presentation dinner to be held on Saturday March 7 at the Forbes Services Memorial Club commencing at 6.30pm.
This year our special guest is Jeremy Williams, former Australian Volleyball player.
Jeremy is currently a teacher at Denison College Bathurst - Kelso High Campus where he has been achieving success as a volleyball coach - testament to his talents as a player from 1986 to 1995.
He was a member of the NSW State Teams from 1986 - 1994 and toured New Zealand, Korea and captained the U/19 in 1993 and U/21 in 1994.
From 1988 - 1992 Jeremy was a member of Australian Junior Teams and played two Asian Junior Championships. He toured Indonesia in 1989 and Thailand 1991.
In 1993 he competed in the World Students Games with the Australian University team in Buffalo, New York. From 1991 - 1995 Jeremy was a member of the Australian Senior AIS squad located at the State Sports Centre Homebush and toured Korea twice, Tasmania, China, NSW, Germany, Switzerland and Latvia.
As a school coach from 1998 he has coached teams to the State Knock out Champions five times. He successfully coached the Western Region Volleyball teams to the State Champs seven times. He has coaches NSW Juniors and NSW CHS Under 16s.
SOYA Awards to be named on the night include the Junior and Senior Sportsperson, All Rounder, Coach/Trainer, Referee/Umpire/Official, Administrator, Team and of course the Forbes Sportsperson and Runner Up for 2019.
The overall winner of the Central West Credit Union Monthly Achievers Award will also be announced on the night along with the President's Award, Phillip Adams Encouragement Award, Merit Awards, School and Special Sports Awards and the Forbes Netball Association Terry Wade Award.
"The calibre of the nominations received for all the awards was of a very high standard making the job of the independent judging panel extremely difficult," SOYA secretary Anita Morrison said.
The SOYA Awards would not be possible without the generous support of our local businesses, allowing Forbes to be one of the last country towns in New South Wales who host a separate sporting awards ceremony.
Tickets are now available from Hello World Travel - Adults $35 and Children (12 years & under) $20 includes dinner. All tickets need to be purchased by 5pm Friday February 28.
