Thompson played junior rugby league for Forbes Magpies and attended Red Bend Catholic College.
He's preparing for his third season with Manly Sea Eagles and has more than 200 NRL games under his belt - mostly as a backrower.
Thompson and the Indigenous All Stars this week have rallied behind a Queensland schoolboy who has received widespread support after his mother posted an emotional video of him on social media.
The All Stars have extended an invitation to nine-year-old Quaden Bayles, a victim of bullying, to lead them out against the Maori All Stars at Cbus Super Stadium.
The Indigenous All Stars squad filmed a video which was posted to the NRL's official Facebook page on Thursday.
"Quaden, how are you going cuz, we just want to wish you all the best brother," Latrell Mitchell said.
"We know you're going through a hard time now, but we're here, we've got your back and we're here to support you."
Meanwhile, Thompson will return to the region next month as a special guest at the Young Sports Advisory Committee Awards dinner.
The Young sports awards this year will be held at the Young Golf Club on March 28.
Saturday's game begins at 8.10pm.
