Forbes Shire Council has engaged consultants to help develop a Recreation and Open Space Strategy for the shire, explains Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM.
"ROSS Planning are the consultants engaged to carry out this work," Mayor Miller said.
"They were established over 15 years ago and specialise in Recreation, Open Space and Sport (ROSS) planning."
Mayor Miller urged people to share their thoughts, ideas and experiences about our local parks and open spaces if they are approached by one of the ROSS Planning team.
"Your input will help lead to better outcomes for the project," Mayor Miller said.
The Recreation and Open Space Strategy will investigate the current organisations, services and sport and active recreation facilities in the Shire, community demographics and population projections.
It will look at the recreation needs of the community and actions required to provide a diverse range of sustainable active recreation and sporting opportunities for the community into the future.
The consultants' visit is only the start of the planning process, the independent group have made their initial visit and will return in coming weeks.
"Focused consultation with community members will occur through various mediums including an online survey, community organisation interviews and community workshops," Mayor Miller said.
"So, if you are approached by one of the ROSS Planning team over the coming weeks for a quick chat, please cooperate as the more info and ideas collected the better.
"There will be plenty of opportunity for residents to be involved in shaping this important Recreation Open Space Strategy to benefit residents and visitors."
The strategy will then help the council budget for - and apply for funding for - improvements to our sports grounds and park spaces in future.
