The awards dinner is on this Saturday, and judges have had the difficult task of selecting winners from some high quality nominations.
While there can only be one winner in each category, it's worth acknowledging the many achievements of our sportspeople.
This year's finalists are ...
Senior sportsperson
Charlie French, rugby union - a member of the successful Central West Blue Bulls that toured New Zealand, who was then selected for the Country Cockatoos preliminary squad.
Lillyann Mason-Spice, rugby union - a member of the winning Central West side who was named in the Australia A team for the Oceania Rugby Women's Championships and the NSW Waratahs extended squad for the Super W season.
Haylee Redfern, kettlebell - Haylee has been selected to represent Australia at the World Kettlebell Championships, and at the World Kettlebell Federation Kettlebell Championships. She was ranked number 1 in the GSAA kettlebell national championships, and was also in the top five in the running for title of Australasian Fittest Mum.
Maggie Townsend, rugby union and league - Maggie was named in the Australian Police rugby team to tour Hong Kong, was a member of the first Platypi women's team and has also been selected for Western region and police representative rugby league honours.
Junior sportsperson
Jackson Beaudin, all rounder - Jackson is an achiever in sports from swimming to rugby league, squash to motor sports. His highest representative honours are in athletics, having competed at the State Championships in shot put, discus, 400m and 60m hurdles.
Fletcher Browne, dance - Fletcher is now studying dance full time at Dance Force in Tweed Heads. He swept numerous awards at regional eisteddfods and performed frequently at local community events.
Laura Chudleigh, athletics - Laura enjoyed success at local, western and State athletics competition. She's also represented her school in soccer, tennis and touch football.
Sam Drane, autosports - Sam has hit the dirt track and is already an Australian champion and international competitor. He travelled to the US in 2019 and raced on a bike he'd never ridden before - taking out fourth in the AMA Grand Nationals.
Joe Ellison, clay shooting - Joe took out the NSW Junior Masters Championship and High Gun title in competition against clay target shooters from all over the country, and he's only been eligible to compete in the sport for a year. He's also been chosen for the NSW team to compete at the national titles.
George Field, cricket - George is a stand-out on the cricket field at Polding and town representative level, but he's also an achiever in swimming, cross country, athletics, rugby league and other sports.
Ellie Flick, all rounder - Ellis plays a number of sports at a representative level including netball, league tag and rugby league. She was our Forbes Indigenous Sportsperson of the Year and was named Red Bend Catholic College all age swimming champion.
Zeo Fraser, physical culture - Zoe qualified for the junior national finals after outstanding achievement in the Under 9s at the Junior Zone Championships.
Macey Greenhalgh, all rounder - Macey was senior girl swimming champion and senior girl athletics champion at both Eugowra Public and the small schools' carnivals. She was a member of the school relay team that went all the way to the State Championships.
Alex Hanley, ranch sorting - Alex only began riding horses mid-2018 and by 2019 she was headed to the ABCRA national titles. She placed third in beginners, and is ranked 31 in Australia.
Jack Hartwig, rugby league - Jack has played representative rugby league for Red Bend, the Forbes Magpies and at a representative level with Western Rams and NSW Country. He's now gained a three-year deal with NRL club Canterbury Bulldogs.
Hugh Hope-Hodgetts, dirt track - Hugh has claimed his first State title at the NSW junior dirt track championships. He also enjoys rugby league and athletics.
Jemma Hodder, all rounder - Jemma represented her school in swimming, athletics, cross country, league tag, touch, soccer, AFL and netball. She also competes in gymnastics.
Olivia Holland, horse riding - Olivia enjoyed success at the NSW Pony Club Show Riding and Dressage Championships, and had the opportunity to represent Pony Club Australia in China.
Summer Hurford, gymnastics - Summer has qualified for the Central West Gymnastics team to compete at the NSW Gymnastics Championships in October.
Toby Hurford, all rounder - Toby represented Forbes High in rugby league, basketball, touch football, soccer, cricket, volleyball, rugby and lawn bowls, displaying exceptional sportsmanship and mentoring younger peers throughout.
Jordan Lewin-Howard, all rounder - Jordan represented Red Bend in netball, touch football, rugby league, basketball, swimming and athletics. She also represented the diocese in cross country.
Amy Maslin, cricket - A handy medium-fast bowler, Amy has notched up some excellent representative achievements in a short time in cricket, playing for her school, club, and region and in the Western Region Academy female under 15s.
Erin Mayo, swimming - A Forbes Amateur Swimming Club member, Erin is enjoying success at local and regional carnivals. Her success at the Combined Catholic Colleges carnival qualified her for the NSW All Schools championships.
Tayte McNamara, all rounder - Tayte has competed at Polding, Cluster and Diocesan levels in swimming and also qualified for representative cross country, rugby league, touch football and rugby.
William Moxey, all rounder - represented Bedgrabong School in a whole range of sports, competed at a regional level in swimming and athletics and at the State PSSA rugby championships.
Lauren Neilsen, dance - Lauren has claimed numerous awards at regional eisteddfods, is a member of Kristen's dance troupe performing at community events and has qualified for the NXT Gen Project to perform in Queensland this year.
Jade Page, all rounder - Jade competed in rugby league, cricket, athletics, and cross country at representative levels for his school and diocese. He's a member of the Central West rugby sevens representative team.
Jenna Redfern, dance - After numerous accolades at regional eisteddfods, Jenna is now dancing full time with Dance Force in Tweed Heads. As a member of the Kristen's Dance Studio performance troupe she's a regular at local community events.
Jake Tomlinson, all rounder - At just 11 years old, Jake is competing in rodeo and ranch sorting as well as breaking in and training his own horses. He's also achieved an incredible array of school and western region athletics and cross country honours.
Lachlan Wallace, all rounder - Lachlan has been making waves in swimming with the Forbes Fins swimming club, right through to the NSW State and Country championships. He represented in athletics, cross country and plays rugby league and union too.
Jakieal Ware, all rounder - Jackieal has qualified for State swimming championships in five events, including the relay where he swam down a 10-metre head start to win.He's also represented Forbes Public in touch football, athletics and rugby league.
Campbell Woolnough, rugby league - Campbell earned a place in the NSW CCC rugby league representative team with his performance as a member of Red Bend's Open A rugby league team. He's also played representative touch football.
Team
Eugowra Public School 4x100m freestyle relay team - consisting of Ben McMahon, Levi Goodwin, Macey Greenhalgh and Hannah Williams were successful in the local and regional carnivals to qualify for the State Championships.
Forbes Dragon Boat - Neil May, Claire Davis, Nicole Williams and Chris Favelle represented NSW as members of the Western Region Team at the Australian Dragon Boat Championships. Nicole, Claire and Neil then had the opportunity to travel to China to compete as part in one of only six teams invited by the Chinese International Dragon Boat Festival Committee.
Forbes High School open lawn bowls team - Connor Greenhalgh, Jack Cole and Toby Hurford made their mark on their debut at the Combined High Schools (CHS) State lawn bowls championships where they played some excellent bowls to place ninth.
Forbes Magpies rugby league under 18s - defeated Dubbo CYMS to take back-to-back Group 11 premierships. Team members: Connor Greenhalgh, Sean Towney, Zeke Hartwig, Isaac Nash, Billy Dukes, Toby Hurford, Tom Toohey, Tom Hopkins, Campbell Woolnough, Tom Phillips, Harry Leadbitter, Jack Hartwig, Kyle McClenahan and coach Jason Kennedy.
Forbes Polo - Sam Gunn, Anto White, Amy Gunn and Gary Johnston claimed victory in Scone claiming the Scone Polo Club's A Grade Piesley Cup with Amy Gunn being named the tournament's most valuable player.
Forbes Public 4 x 50m freestyle team - Jemma Hodder, Summer Hurford, Louie Hodder and Stephanie Vonthien broke a relay record set in 2001 by almost 12 seconds.
Forbes Public School open rugby league - the team was crowned Champions of the Western Region from a field of more than 30 teams. The team included Malaki Paahi, Stirling Francis, Seth Butler, Sam Schrader, Lachlan Alley, Harry Staines, Brock Maynard, Matthew Higgins (captain), Jakieal Ware, Zac Fraser, Jason McCann, Jesse Flick, Dylan Bray, Ollie Scott, Tyler Jelbart, Jye Bush, Noah Bryant, Reece Matheson, Samuel Motley and coaches Ethan Gaffney and Chris Butler. Zac Fraser was named man of the match in their finals win over Orana Heights.
Gunns Mensland Under 12s took out the premiership in the Young District Soccer competition in nail-biting style. Team members are Camile Murru, Alexandra Murru, Elizabeth Brindle, Nico Bet, Harry Stewart, Brodie Page, Charlie Bray, Karma Dechan, Tom Whitty, Dempsey O'Connell, Isaac Page, Mac Glasson, Bryce Tandy, Tom Glasson, Luca Bet (captains), Tony O'Connell & Andrew Glasson (coaches).
Coach / trainer
Peter Clifton - is nominated for his passion, his love of tennis and his ongoing work getting children involved in this sport through his school holiday tennis clinics.
Raymond Smith - has had another successful year as a trainer in the sport of greyhound racing. He had four dogs in the rich Easter Weekend Carnival at Wentworth Park including one in the Million Dollar Easter Egg Final. Feral Franky powered home to win the Group 3 New Sensation. Little Digger picked up a second in the Group 1 association Cup.
Felicity Worland - is a dedicated coach who conducts morning and afternoon squad training for beginners to older competing children for the Forbes Fins. Average club nights see 111 swimmers competing with total squad numbers of 258 made up from 142 families.
Referee / umpire / official
Shirley Dukes - is a grandma who lends a hand to many local sports including Little Athletics, Forbes Amateur Swim Club, Forbes MotoX and flat track motorcycle racing, Magpies Under 10s, Forbes Netball and Forbes Public School.
Kristy Hartwig - has been involved in junior and senior rugby league in the local area for many years, as a player, as an administrator and more recently as a referee. Not only does Kristy referee and officiate games, she balances these commitments with her coaching roles.
Administration
Forbes Sorting and Penning Inc - Operating for only 12 months, the club held six competitions over three weekends with more than 100 competitors and 350 runs per day. It was a successful year. The committee's goal is to provide and promote a friendly, family-orientated, competitive riding experience for everyone.
Chelsea Lander - has been instrumental in applying for and receiving grant funding for Forbes Fins swim club, which has been used to upgrade equipment for the use of many swimmers and to provide the coaches with equipment to assist them with day to day coaching.
Michelle McKeown - is treasurer of Forbes Fins Swim Club and has implemented a successful accounting package to help coordinate fees, invoices and payments for all Fins members. She has also created a revolutionary system for the Fins Club to have a point of sale system. Forbes Fins is the twelfth largest club in NSW.
Beryl and Lynnie Roberts - have supported Forbes Golf Club and district for decades, volunteering their time as executive in men's, ladies and veterans clubs. They've been a key part of major golf events including the Forbes Classic, championships, memorial and charity golf days and much more.
Melissa West - is the secretary of Forbes Sorting and Penning Inc and has put countless hours into the club getting grants, entering competitors, organising prizes and awards. She manages to compete and sure the competition runs smoothly.
