Forbes' most recent flood study is now on public exhibition online for community comment.
The study, which informs the Floodplain Risk Management Study and ultimately Forbes Shire Council's development control plan, has been extended and subject to a peer review within the industry.
At their March meeting last week, councillors resolved to put it out for public exhibition for 28 days.
Mayor Phyllis Miller is urging all residents to go online and look at the study, particularly at how some of the zonings have changed between the 2001 and 2018 maps.
The zoning impacts the potential for development in an area, such as the size of residential blocks and where homes can be built.
"It's important we get this right," Mayor Miller said. "As a council we are trying to get the best for our community."
The Lower Bathurst Street and River road areas were a discussion point at the meeting, as part of the area has changed from low hazard to high hazard flood storage since the 2001 flood study.
Some other areas have gone up or down one level in the zoning.
On the map, the darkest red indicates high hazard floodway, the orange high hazard flood storage and the yellow high hazard flood fringe.
The blues indicate low hazard floodway, flood storage and (the darkest blue) flood fringe.
At the same meeting, the council also resolved to lodge an application for grant funding for further modelling of the Lower Bathurst Street area and creation of a revised development control plan.
Council shut its Town Hall offices to the public as of midday Thursday as part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the plans can be viewed on the council website.
