A few might disagree but its sure the majority will agree as his record since winning his first club championships at the age of 14 and everything in between here and across the country since is the testimony to his ability.
We're taking about John Betland who on Saturday showed power from the tee and finesse around and on the green to win the A grade Monthly Medal with 66 nett off his Plus 1 handicap (seven under par) for the monthly major competition played over a rain soaked course and sponsored by Terry Bros Carpets.
Another with power from the tee and a relative new player in Jacob Bernardi (handicap 11) was runner-up beaten on a count-back where a seven on the 7th was his down-fall.
Tony Wallace made a somewhat come-back to golf 'fleecing' his mates for change in posting the round of the day, 64 nett off his 15 handicap in B grade. Doug Churchill (h'cap 14) held his form to be runner-up with 67 nett.
Two newer golfers fought out C grade, Bede Tooth (h'cap 23) with 66 nett was winner from Jack Dobell (h'cap 23) runner-up on 67 nett.
Due to coronavirus regulations no nearest the pins while ball sweep winners included, 66 nett Ethan Gaffney (h'cap 9), 68 nett Lee Grierson (home from study in Wollongong, h'cap 3), Jeff Haley (17), Stuart French (14), Brett Thomas (16), Phil Maher (12), 69 nett Ben Robinson (23), Todd Callaghan (5), Peter Dawson (5), Shane Sallaway (1), Charlie Dwyer (12), Ross Williams (25), Max Haley (18), 70 on a c/b Brian Everest (13).
Played on Sunday was the final of the Summer Sixes competition so vital of the financial coffers of the FGA as well as offering social golfers the chance to have hit in competition.
While final results will be published next week in brief the grand final winners were Forbes Automotive Services consisting of Jack Dobell, Kyle Biles, Kallum Tyne, Jon Cutler, Nick Ryan and Brad McMillan with a score 94.5 from EHAG 98.5, Pro Shop Dream Team 100 and Flip Floppers 104.
Plate winners were Still Trying with a score of 90. Team members included Kerry Stirling, Robyn Lyell, Heather Davidson, Debbie Dingwell, Janet Smith and Rose Carroll.
Despite distance and health regulations concerning COVID-19 there is still plenty to keep all regular golfers on course including a hit from 9.30am with regular Tuesday social players, the same for veteran social players on Thursday with tee off around 10am then of course the weekend comps.
One very important message to all players is listen to what is being said when paying green fees at the window of the Pro Shop. These instruction are vital to golf being played in coming weeks/months.
