This week Viv Russell returned to the winner's circle after a bit of a hiatus. His score of 32 points had a gap over the runner-up, Andrew McDonald on 30 points. Both players excelled on the greens.
Golf is returning to groups from next week, which should make it easier for all social golfers, ladies and men, to join in. Usual start of 9 am for 9:30 tee off.
Thursday 14 May saw a group of 19 Vets play their 12-hole comp in warm conditions, and sometimes assisted by a slight breeze.
The winner was John Smith with a finely crafted 31 points, and who took away a $30 voucher. Runner-up was Geoff Drane with 28 points, and a $20 voucher. His score was helped with a birdie on the 1st hole, something rare for him.
The hard luck story goes to Brian Clarke. On the 1st tee he put his first two shots OB. The third shot followed suit, but struck the roof of the motel and rebounded back onto the fairway. He had tried to follow Alex McKinnon's advice but there must have been some misinterpretation on what to do.
Next week the Vets will be playing in groups, and thus will return to full competition at Forbes. No travel yet, but more chance to enjoy a wider company. Gather at 12:30 pm for a 1:00 pm tee off.
