A fine afternoon last Thursday was just what the committee members of the Forbes Riverside Community Garden wished for when they set the date for their regular monthly meeting.
The outside venue enabled everyone to satisfy social distancing requirements while enjoying some pleasant winter sunshine.
Since March this year the Community Garden has been operating under its own constitution as the Forbes Riverside Community Garden Inc, having separated its management from Council.
Council is still the major financial supporter of the Garden and additional income is earned through the sale of produce, seedlings, trees and potted colour.
Throughout the Covid-19 closure of the Garden front gate in Reymond Street, trading was conducted via a pop-up stall in Battye Street.
The Garden members would like to thank those who supported this stall and kept the wheels of the Garden turning.
The Garden gate in Reymond Street (previously the site of NSW Forestry) is now open of a morning and the public is invited to drop in and purchase fresh produce and plants.
However, it is necessary that all visitors observe social distancing and all other health protocols that are advised.
On offer at the moment are cabbages, cauliflowers, carrots, silverbeet, peas, turnips, sweet potato, lemons, limes, lemonades, mandarins and some flower and vegetable seedlings.
And please select some complimentary herbs for your favourite dish.
The Community Garden is manned Monday - Saturday from 9am - 11am, depending on the availability of volunteers.
The Garden also has a presence at the Forbes Farmers Market on the fourth Saturday of each month, so catch up with us there on August 25.
If your community group is getting up and running again and you'd like to let the community know through the Advocate, email renee.powell@forbesadvocate.com.au or phone the Advocate on 6852 1800.
