The game is on at the Forbes 'Bowlie' in more ways than one. It all started last weekend with outstanding success in the Mixed Pairs Carnival which was won by the local pairing of visitor Connie Rutherford and Brian Asimus (note separate report published Tuesday).

As for men bowlers all eyes now centre on the first round of the Club Major Singles which has members divided as to favourite for the blue ribbon event.
A quick look at the unseeded draw broken into four divisions leading to the semi finals has section two creating most interest which includes Lindsay Willding, Mitch Andrews and Greg Gunn.
Prior to the draw many had Lindsay, a former State Seniors Singles winner and current Senior District Singles champion and Mitch, a more junior player with untapped talent as possible favourites while Greg also has support. However reports are that the likeable sports sponsor is currently 'a bit lame' and may not be at his best.
Adding to the interest in section two is that Lindsay and Mitch have drawn each other. The winner here is sure to be installed as favourite for the remainder of the draw.
Three players receive byes in the first round, one is Scotty McKellar In section one where the strongest chances here appear to be Laurence Jackson and Geoff Williams. Both, on their day have the game to test any opposition.
In the bottom half of the draw, section three holds considerable interest with current District Singles runner-up Christian West, former Club Champion Glenn Kearney and the talented Robert 'Bert' Bayley all engaged.
Christian had 'a walk' into the second round with former club champion and current greenkeeper Scott Andrews having to forfeit due to family commitments.
Many are predicting the winners of sections two and three to meet in the final, but they will have several hurdles to contend with before hand. If so if they do meet, a game not to be missed.
In section four another former club champion, Bruce Williams will have his supporters despite not being seen on the greens a great deal of late.
A confident and yet another former club champion, Brian Asimus will be a definite threat in division four hoping to carry his form of last weekend into the championship finals.
The first round is scheduled to be played by this Sunday evening, cards for the games on the nomination board.
While the major singles is drawing interest amongst bowlers there is still plenty to keep players of all levels engaged with nominations called for Major Triples, Minor Singles, Triples and Fours.
Also coming up is the Ben Hall Open Pairs which can comprise teams of men, ladies or mixed to be played over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, August 29/30.
Sunday morning is the major event this weekend with the final round of the T and M Tyres Mixed Triples with sponsor and former club greenkeeper Tony Osborne out to show how the game 'should be played' taking to the green for his annual roll.
Despite being played over three rounds all are invited to have a game on Sunday with noms from 9.30am for a 10am start.
Chief organiser for Wednesday morning bowls Trevor Currey has asked that all intending players to nominate early or the chances are that once the draw is made they may miss out on a game.
"Please nominate by 9.30am, we do the draw then and most times we get a late nominate which has seen us late on the green. We have a sheet on the board now but if not phone through your nomination on 6852 1499. It's not that hard," Trevor added.
Warren Keep and Don Craft combined superbly last Wednesday morning resulting in card draw winners with a 29-14 victory over John 'Slippery' Ward and Tony Bratton in a game lasting 20 ends. They were always in control leading 15-6 after 10.
Bill O'Connell (with a resting toucher) and Scotty McKellar held on late to account for Denny Byrnes and Paul Doust 21-18 over 20 ends leading 12-4 at 'oranges'.
In a shorter game over 16 ends committee members Ray Dunstan and John Gorton won 16-10 against Trevor Currey (stressed out due to late nominations) and Sid Morris. It was close after eight, 7-6 to to the winners.
Geoff Coles is showing benefits of practise to team with Peter Mackay winning 21-13 against his son Michael and Lyell Strudwick over 20 ends. They led 14-6 after 10.
Over 17 ends David Williams and Geoff Williams had a win over Ron Thurlow Mick Valentine 16-11. In a low scoring game they led 8-4 after eight.
John Ashcroft and Barry Shine jumped out of the box to lead 13-3 over John Baass and Cliff Nelson after nine ends before winning 21-11 over 18 ends.
The last game out of 28 players resulted in Merv Langfield and Jim Moloy winning 22-10 against Kerry Dunstan and John "Gunna' Williams over 19 ends. They led 16-7 after 10.
