January 19 was a day of wild weather in the midst of the third summer of drought, one that will be remembered for the dust storms and bushfire smoke.
On that Sunday afternoon, a menacing front of dust rolled in to the region and turned day to night.
It came with high winds, a cold front, and even dam-filling rains for some.

Since then, the season has changed immeasurably for the better: Forbes airport recorded 424mm of rain in the first six months of the year, easily surpassing the annual rainfall totals of the past two years.
