Taylor Bliss, from Yoorana Gunya, said the Mobile Children's Library is an initiative for Aboriginal children to borrow books and an opportunity for children to participate in the library and become responsible for returning the books.
Ms Bliss said they are hoping that the mobile library will encourage parents to read with their children and will also give the children something to look forward to of a Wednesday afternoon.
Patricia Weatherall, from Yoorana Gunya, said the library is to encourage reading, spending quality time with family and teaching the responsibility of returning books.
"During restrictions it has been hard for families and this is something that children can look forward too. We will also be having monthly prizes to reward the kids that return their books weekly," she said.
The books will be stored on the Yoorana Gunya bus and will be going around to houses every Wednesday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. The Mobile Children's Library will have the same protocols as a typical library, except it's on wheels.
Ms Weatherall said they are able to provide the library bags and swap books each Wednesday afternoon.
Parents can call Ms Weatherall on 6850 1222 or email her at patricia@yooranagunya.com.au to organise a visit with the Mobile Children's Library.
The Mobile Children's Library was launched on Wednesday, September 2 which was National Indigenous Literacy Day. This day aims to help raise Indigenous literacy levels.
