The Federal Government has asked the National Council of the St Vincent de Paul Society and The Salvation Army to distribute small cash grants into people's bank accounts to help soften the blow, a media release issued by St Vincent de Paul this week says.
People who have received the grant have used the money for food, petrol, school expenses and other bills.
Paddocks might be greening up and dams full, but it takes months, if not years, for cash from crops and replenished livestock to find its way to depleted bank accounts, Vinnies says.
St Vincent de Paul is encouraging people to apply for the grants and says the application process is as simple as they can make it.
The Parkes and Hilltops local government areas are being serviced by Vinnies, call the hotline on 1300 846 643.
People in the Forbes, Cowra and Weddin shires can seek assistance through The Salvation Army with an online application. If you have any questions ahead of filling out an online application, you can call the Drought Community Support team on 1300 551 030
You will need to show a couple of key identification documents, but not your tax return or financial statements, Vinnies advises.
The Federal Government's grant is available until December this year.
