The award-winning business, which was opened by Glynn Acheson in 1970, has been serving our community for decades and will retain the level of specialist knowledge and service they are known for.
In 2008, the hardware store moved from its location by the Newell Highway to Sam Street and became known as A&B building Supplies under the management of Aaron Acheson and his mum Barb McKinnon. In 2014, they moved to 7 Oxford street where it became Acheson's Home Timber and Hardware and was run by Aaron and Barb until Barb's passing in 2015.
The store was run by Aaron on his own with the help of his staff until his wife Jacinda Acheson came on board full time in 2018.
Coming under the Mitre 10 banner will strengthen the store's ability to provide a wide range of products at competitive prices through Australia's largest independent home improvement and hardware wholesaler, while remaining proudly family-owned and operated.
New signage is being prepared and the buildings are being painted in preparation for the change.
Aaron and Jacinda say it's an exciting new era for the family who have proudly serviced the Forbes region with hardware and building supplies for over 40 years.
"I grew up in hardware. With our family store starting in 1970. Our longevity in the town is down to the value we place on local relationships and knowing what our customers want," Aaron said.
"The change builds on improvements we've been making in recent years to the store. We've been remodelling to ensure presentation, stock levels and range are what our community expects, which is reflective in the 'store of the year' awards we have won for the last five years," Aaron said.
"The move to Mitre 10 is a natural progression for the business, joining a strong national brand that is highly regarded for both Trade and DIY. It suits our strategy and allows us to expand our promotions to offer even great value to the community."
The repainting starts the end of September and the site is expected to have "gone blue" by mid-October.
"We apologise for any inconvenience during this changeover but assure customers it will be worth it," Aaron said.
The design has been extensively planned, aiming to brighten and improve the layout and flow for customers, including a new-look Paint Colour Centre and Tool Centre. For the Tradies, a dedicated Trade Desk will allow quick access, while the timber yard boasts a better undercover timber area and drive-thru traffic plan.
One thing that Aaron insist won't change however is the same familiar faces and specialist knowledge that you've come to expect at Acheson's. It will be the same business with the same great team.
"Our staff are genuinely excited for what the rebrand means for locals. We have a solid group of eight employees, many who have worked for the business for a long time. We all work as a team and have a real passion for helping locals with their projects and finding solutions."
Allan Brockman is one team member that has been working within the Acheson family business for over three decades.
"Allan has known me since I was in nappies and I'd say he also knows most of the people in Forbes too. He's on first-name basis with every customer who walks in our door and personally sees that our customers get the help they need every time. It's a trademark of a locally owned family business," Aaron said.
The range of products will mostly stay the same, however customers will gain new services and convenience as part of the revamp.
"Our loyalty program is free to join and rewards you every time you shop with us. All existing loyalty customers will transition to the Mitre 10 'Mighty Rewards' program," Aaron said. "And our Click 'N Collect service gives customers the option to buy over 15,000 products online, which means access to more products than we've ever been able to display before."
