Central West Libraries are encouraging everyone to get crafty during this school holiday period with their activity packs and Lego and craft book cover challenge.

The libraries are preparing for the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week in October, with fun activities and exciting competitions that ask you to explore and respond to the wonderful CBCA 2020 shortlisted titles.

Central West Libraries "Pick the Winner" competition invites Curious Creatures to investigate the CBCA shortlisted titles and make their choices for Book of the Year across all six categories.

Prizes will be awarded to the entrants whose choices most closely match those chosen by the CBCA judges on October 16.

Central West Libraries Lego and Craft Book Cover Competition challenges children to choose a CBCA shortlisted title and recreate its cover in Lego or craft. Here's how:

  1. Explore the Children's Book Council of Australia shortlisted books on display or online via https://cbca.org.au/shortlist-2020
  2. Choose one book from the CBCA Shortlist and recreate its cover using Lego (or similar bricks) or craft (any kind - pencil, pen, paint, collage, origami, embroidery, macramé etc...).
  3. Photograph your creation.
  4. Email to library@cwl.nsw.gov.au with CWLCRAFTCOVER in the subject line.
  5. Include your name, age, contact number, CWL Borrower Number and CWL Branch and the title of the book which has inspired your creation.

Entries close on midnight October 15. Winners will be announced on Friday October 23 and contacted by phone.

Winners will receive a prize voucher, have their creation put on display and made into a digital jigsaw puzzle and photographed in interactive 3D. Have fun!

You can also sign up via Eventbrite for a Central West Libraries School Holiday Activity Pack, which contains some fun colouring-in and upcycling paper craft.

Of course, Forbes library is also filled with books, CDs, DVDs, and magazines just ready to be borrowed for the holidays.
