On Wednesday October 28 the final of the minor pairs will be played between P Markey, R Mattiske and A Dent and M Willcockson. Skips of the triples can you please organise your games before the play or forfeit date. The draw for the 4s and consistency have also been done so if you could organise your game as we would like to get these events finished in time for presentation day which the date is yet to be advised.

Prior to the 'twin towns' monthly 18 hole veterans golf competition last Thursday in Forbes local members held their AGM with no changes due to the successful running of the sub-committee over the past couple of years.

Returning president Peter Barnes presented his report thanking all for their support during the dramas of COVID-19 while also stating support on the course has been good most times with increased playing numbers due to members seeking exercise while sticking to rules and regulations. He did also state that one of the drawbacks from covid was the cancellation of the Vets Week Of Golf, hopefully able to be played next year.

Peter added his thanks to the ground staff for presenting the course in pristine condition week after week and the support of his committee.

With the meeting finalised Forbes vets hosted Parkes members for the weekly 12 hole competition where the visitors took all honours, including winning the Miller Shield where their best six individual scores resulted in 157 points to Forbes' 151.

Reason for this can be attributed to two individuals known quite well to Forbes residents, former Advocate journalist John 'Sos' Dwyer and rugby league player Mick Bond.

'Sos', who recently underwent a shoulder operation recorded what some feel could be a record score of 33 stableford points for the 12 hole competition to win by five from 'Magpie' Mick runner-up. On each hole their score was three with a few four pointers thrown in to have them closing in on 30 four-ball points for the front nine holes.

Not only that at the other end of scoring Parkes' Rick Glover won a 'Burner' ball with the encouragement award.

Nearest the pin winners, A grade 9th Richard Hamilton (P), 18th Gary Collits (P) while Forbes ace John Smith won both in B grade.

Twin Towns 12 hole competition in Parkes on Thursday, noms from 9.30am for a 10am shotgun start.

Tuesday golfers again enjoyed the hospitality of host Geoff Drane for their 12 hole competition with Bob Grant back in the winners circle with 31 points. But only just, on a countback from Brian Clarke who ran out of 'gas' the last three holes after looking for lost balls from his playing partners on most holes.

It's back on again today with players meeting from 9am to tee-off as they arrive due to covid regulations. New players are always welcome.

Veteran golfers are expected to take advantage of increased sponsorship for their division in the Nissan Classic to be played in Forbes the weekend on November 14/15. What a great afternoon of bowls. We all celebrated Joan Littlejohn's 90th birthday - what a great achievement Joan. Joan had two wins on that day as well.

Winners for the day were Wilma, Gloria and Joan 3 wins 19 points.

Runners-up Denny and Liz 1 win 2 losses 31 points. In the first game Denny took the jack off twice so that was 8 points to the other team, but they used to say it's a good bowl that takes the jack off. The chocolate went to Sandy and Vera. First prize was won by Joan, Wilma, and Vera.

This week how things can change from one week to the next: winners for the day were Liz, Joyce and Denny 3 wins 26 points, runners-up Vera and Sue. Chocolate went to Joan Sandy and Gloria.

Court Two; W Bills went down 17, 25 to Burtons. Wayne lost to Luke 2-3, Jan Berger lost to Charlie Yapp 7-15 in set four. Isaacs Barnard and Berger lost to George Falvey and Kasey Kinsey 0-3 so W Bill's only wins were Bradman Hardy over Tom Cormie 3-2 and Brock Maynard against Claire Bayley 3-0.

Court Three; Krosses defeated Roaches 31 to18, all matches bar one went three sets. Henry beat Nathan 15-13, 16-14, 15-9, Cam Toole and Louise Webb had wins over Michelle Bentick and Lindy Cowhan 3-0, Marc Hardy lost to Austen Brown 0-3, Gabe M McMillam lost to Derek Pymont 0-3 but Jono Webb beat Ty Phillips 3-1 and sub J Beaudin beat Tyson McKinnon 3-0.

These results made no change to team positions; Krosses retain top spot on 265 points. Burtons caught Coombs on 246 all but Coombs keep second place for defeating Burtos twice. So Burtons hold third position and Roaches follow with 231 points.

Court One; Sharpes tied Hornerys 14 points all, Jono Cannon beat Pete Thompson 3-0, sub B Connell lost to Pete Tzinos 1-3, sub A Chudleigh lost to Max Ridley 2-3 and in 'Match of the Week' Alec Walters lost by 11-15 after, big to opponent Weivan Huang, four very sweaty sets.

Court Two; Pipers had a healthy win over comp toppers Dawes 30 to 12, Darryn beat Oli 3-1, Hayden Williams lost to Mitch Doyle 1-3, Den Haynes ran well to clinch a hard win against volley master, Sandy Paterson 15-11, 16-18, 15-13 and 15-12. Cam Toole, Adam Chudleigh and George Falvey all came home strong with 3-0 wins against Steve Allegri, Jason Mallon and Ken Bryant respectively.

Court Three fortunes saw Allegris surrender a fourth place semis berth to Millers. Brendon lost to Lochie 0-3, Dan Bayley worked hard to win against Jake Shaw 3-1, sub B Connell lost to Graham Coombs 1-3, and Rusco Brown lost to sub G Falvey 0-3.

Dawes held a grip on first place and 239, Pipers next with 231 points, Sharpes third on 184 and Millers made a late break for fourth spot.
