The weekend conditions were as hot as forecast, which resulted in a change of tactics for the weekend golfers. Many were seen seeking shade among the trees, but unfortunately a major portion of those were involuntary. While the temperatures were hot, that did not necessarily result in hot scores being made.

Saturday's Mens competition was a combination of an Individual Stroke event, sponsored by Loomzy's Fish & Fix, plus the determination of the 'Medal of Medallists'. The field of 71 was slightly down and presumably affected by the forecast hot temperatures.
Among the field were 18 of the eligible 29 players vying for the 'Medal of Medallists' Trophy. Some promising players soon dropped out of contention with major blemishes on their score card early in their rounds.
But overall, while the Medallists scores were not breath-taking, the competition was very tight with three leaders finishing on nett 72.
The deciding count back declared Peter Dawson as the winner of the 'Medal of Medallists' Trophy, over Clayton Alley and John Zannes. It was quite fitting for both Peter and Clayton as they were dual medallists through the year.
Some form players who faltered through the day included Troy Howe, Brian Everest and Harry Callaghan.
The Overall Results in the Individual Stroke event were slightly better than what the Medallists had achieved. It was a case of a real mix of achievers.
The Div 1 winner was Michael Spice, who fired a very worthy score of 69 nett. His bogey-bogey start looked ominous but a string of pars helped him immensely on the front-9 and but for an untimely '8' on the 15th his back-9 would have been just as good.
Runner-up, on count back from two others was Kim Herbert with nett 71. He was looking good at the start of each half, but some tardiness in the middle of each half hampered his score.
The Div 2 was won by Blair Thomas, whose 68 nett was achieved without a '7' on his card. He has responded well to competition play, and is one of only a few to gladly see his handicap dropping.
Runner-up was Bruce Chandler (nett 70) who is feeling more at peace with his golf. He recently retired and has been able to participate in the Tuesday Golfers and Vets events. An inexplicable '8' on the 16th cost him dearly.
The ball sweep went to 75 nett on count back: 71 - R Scott, L Kearney (Crookwell), G Hopkins (Mereweather), R Webb; 72 - L Little, C Alley, P Barnes, L O'Connor, P Dawson, B Turner, J Zannes; 73 - K Sanderson, N Greenhalgh, B Carpenter, A Rees, C Dwyer, A Nolan (Crookwell); 74 - G Falvey,; 75 - A Wallace.
The NTP's went to: 9th - K Herbert; 18th - N Greenhalgh, of whom only Nick converted. The 3rd Hole Super Pin went to Charlie Dwyer, and again not especially close but at least he got his '2'. There were only ten 2's with the 18th again yielding the most.
There was a good group of visitors, which included: from Crookwell GC - L Kearney, A Nolan, T Johns, R Kearney, R McIntosh, A Galland, M Watson, T Bensley, J Roberts, G Johns; Mereweather - G Hopkins; Mudgee - S Flynn; Coffs Hbr - P Jackson; Parkes - W Wright.
Welcome to them all, and while some of the scores were not very good I am sure they enjoyed the course.
There was certainly a wide range in the scores, with some players battling to keep their sanity. The range of the tales of despair also showed a number of different beginnings.
The day's play had begun on the 10th tee, due to a wedding function scheduled there for later. As golfers finished on the 9th hole, they found some additional challenges.
One player teed off, then noticed a group of wedding guests walking along the roadway in front of the green, totally against all of the agreed arrangements.
Luckily the tee shot carried across the walkers and landed neatly on the green. Other guests were re-directed while the golfing group finished their tee shots.
It was not all bad on the day. Brendan Turner made a return to competition golf. His nett score of 72 was a welcome opening bash, and with more time with the sticks his handicap will drop to a more challenging level. Good to see you back Brendan.
The Sunday Stableford Medley field was small, with the participants going out early to beat the heat. There were no startling scores, with most being much of a muchness.
The honours went to Frank Donohoe with 35 points, ahead of Ben Webb (Dubbo) on 34 points. There was no ball sweep, and unfortunately there were no NTP's snared either.
