At time of preparing for press, Weatherzone anticipates the temperature in Forbes will reach 40 degrees on Saturday and 41 next Tuesday.
It will be the second sizzling-hot Saturday in a row if the forecast proves true.
The Rural Fire Service is appealing to everyone to monitor conditions and be prepared to cease harvest or other activities that could spark a fire.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the temperature peaked at 40.5 degrees on Saturday, November 21, after reaching a sizzling enough 39.2 degrees on Friday afternoon.
If it felt like a shock to the system, it might be because Forbes airport only recorded two days over 30 degrees in all of October, and a fairly mild start to November as well.
The heatwave was fairly short-lived with the arrival of stormy conditions that saw Sunday peak at 33.6 degrees.
Rains arrived then: the airport recording 4.8mm Sunday and another 16.6mm in a storm system that swept in Monday afternoon.
The Advocate's Facebook followers reporting they received 16 to 25mm in the period across town locations.
NSW Health advises keeping an eye on the weather forecast and preparing for heat.
They advise the following steps to reduce risk:
Keep yourself cool
- Wear loose fitting clothing
- Stay out of the sun
- Try to be indoors during the hottest part of the day.
- Close windows and doors to keep the heat out. Curtains with light-coloured lining can help to reflect heat.
- Use air conditioning if you have it. Fans can also be effective
Stay hydrated by drinking water
- Avoid alcoholic, hot or sugary drinks including tea and coffee (they can make dehydration worse)
- If you go outside, carry a bottle of water with you
Be aware that older adults, infants and young children, pregnant women or people with a chronic or acute illness are at higher risk of heat illness.
Those who work in a hot environment or outdoors, or who take certain medications, should also be aware and take precautions.
