To be honest, I really thought Christmas 2020 would be called off and I would get to spend it with Mrs Claus and the reindeers sun baking in the Caribbean.
But then I got the International Christmas Memo from the Christmas Department Head Office stating that despite all the COVID-19 travels bans, our team had been given special permission to carry out our annual Christmas deliveries to children all over the world.
Have you been making any special preparations for the big trip in 2020?
Like all big events, I had to provide a COVID-19 plan and make sure all our PPE gear was up to date and that the reindeers had the correct sanitiser for their hooves and suitable masks etc. It means we might have a slightly heavier load this year so we may need to look at recruiting some extra, specially-trained reindeers and we are currently interviewing for those positions.
Kids around the world will be so excited to hear that the current travel bans and lock down restrictions don't apply to Santa and his crew this year but do you think it will have an impact on Christmas Day?
For many families around the world, Christmas this year may feel a little bit different from previous years. With travel bans in place and not as many people travelling you may find there aren't as many people at your Christmas table joining in the festivities as your extended family and friends may have to stay home. But try and focus on who can be there with you this year to enjoy this special time and embrace the fact you are all together to celebrate Christmas.
On a much more serious note, what have been some of the most requested presents kids have asked for this year?
Well, all kids are different but some of the hot items that have been on Christmas lists for 2020 include the Paw Patrols Super Paws Mighty Jet Command Centre, the Gravitrax Starter Set has been a popular request with the boys as has the Nerf X Fortnite AR-L Blaster. Some other presents girls have been asking for are the Crayola Colour'N'Wash My Little Animals and Blume Dolls. But remember kids, Christmas is as much about giving as it is receiving presents. If you don't have a lot of money to buy presents, make something special for your loved ones - even if it is a card it will be greatly appreciated.
And what will Santa have on his list for 2020?
I am hoping for a successful and safe COVID-19 vaccine so we can all get back to living our lives and having our loved ones and families around us whenever we want. That would make 2020 a real special year.
