TO ensure that the huge variety of community needs and interests of our Shire are considered in Councils projects, services and planning, Council facilitates a range of opportunities for the community to have input. The first of these are the Council Committees all of which have considerable Councillor leadership and guidance.
The Community Committees, known as 355's under the LGA, are delegated certain responsibilities and functions and operate subject to adopted procedures and guidelines. These provide an opportunity for community members and organisations to contribute to the development of Council plans and strategies by providing information, advice and feedback. Forbes Shire Council currently has the following committees in place: Finance, Infrastructure and Services, Economic Development, Aerodrome Advisory, Community Gardens, Floodplain, Heritage, Saleyards Advisory, and Audit, Risk and Improvement.
Appointments to these committees are reviewed on an annual basis, and calls to be part of a committee is publicised on Council's website, social media channels and ads in local media. Alternatively, Council extensively plans community engagement activities and there are frequent Town Hall meetings, community gatherings, pop up consultations, online surveys and Facebook polls to gather feedback and input. There is also the YourSay portal on Councils website, an easy way to comment on Council projects and plans.
