HERE at Neighbourhood Central, our amazing volunteers willingly give their time for the benefit of the community and the common good.
They are the backbone of our organisation and help keep our services running that assist our most vulnerable community members.
Since 1977, Neighbourhood Central has grown from humble beginnings. The Parkes and District Neighbourhood and Community Information Centre, also known as the Parkes Neighbourhood Centre, was formed by volunteers who responded to an article in the Parkes Champion Post to improve access to information and support to people living in both the Parkes and Forbes communities.
After successfully applying for a funding grant of $7000, it enabled the first coordinator to be appointed in 1978. Since then Neighbourhood Central has continued to grow and offer more services and assistance across the region. We simply could not support so many in our community without their help.
We have volunteers in:
- Community Transport
- Housebound Library
- Community Visitors
- Meal Services
- Palliative Care
- Social Events
When you help others, you help yourself to stay social, healthy and active.
